History

In 1974, we began a rigorous study of the native partridge in the area, focusing on demographic and behavioural aspects and various morphometric measurements. After a decade of work, in 1984 we managed to establish a unique genetic pattern, with more than 2,000 matches confirming the authenticity and homogeneity of the species studied.

This prompted us to create a hunting reserve covering the entire area considered, at that time, to be one of the few ecological niches in Spain that was still uncontaminated or minimally altered. Thus, the current Santa Marta Reserve was born, with the aim of preserving this natural wealth and promoting sustainable and responsible hunting.

Logistics:

Organising driven hunts requires meticulous planning. From the location of the stands to the counting of the partridges shot and collected, the entire process requires strict coordination.

Each hunter receives a card on which they must note the number of partridges shot and collected. The layout of the hunting posts, as well as the distances between them and their orientation in relation to the terrain, is carried out using traditional methods, always prioritising safety. This discipline guarantees a driven hunt that is respectful of the environment and safe for all participants.

Genetic purity:

The genetic purity that we have managed to preserve to this day in most of our hunting grounds is the result of decades of dedication, care and respect for the natural cycle of the native partridge.

Thanks to responsible management and the constant promotion of their reproduction in the wild, we have managed to keep the essence of this emblematic species intact.

This ongoing effort makes Coto Santa Marta a true benchmark in our region, both for its commitment to authenticity and its fidelity to the purest hunting tradition.
